With eleven official languages, South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation, a metaphor that speaks to all the different people living together as one.
Expect a varied topography, from the fertile plains of the Highveld to the sprawling Mpumalanga savannah, and from the arid Kalahari desert to the dramatic Drakensberg Mountains.
Our South Africa
Experiences
Spend time in vibrant Cape Town, the country’s Mother City, and jump into a thriving art and dining scene amongst welcoming locals. Summit Table Mountain for sweeping views or take to the skies on a private heli ride. Hop on a boat for a short journey to Robben Island, the notorious offshore jail where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Or take a day trip towards Cape Point, home to rugged rocks and sheer cliffs towering over 200 metres above the sea.
Hang out with local surfers in front of brightly coloured houses at Muizenberg or with penguin colonies at Boulders Beach. The Western Cape is also famous for its stunning landscapes and rich soils, where you can visit new world wineries and stay in the opulent Lanzerac Hotel.
Bordered by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, South Africa is intimately linked to the sea, where over 100 shark species and 37 whale and dolphin species rule the waters. Trace the sheltered bays of the Western Cape by land or by boat in Hermanus or Cape Agulhas, and witness mammoth southern right whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions. Spotting sharks is a thrilling experience – whether you’re daringly diving beside Great Whites or simply watching them breach the surface from the comfort of a boat.
Continue along the coast, slide down mountainous dunes, and encounter zebra and other animals at the De Hoop Nature Reserve. Keep going to Oudtshoorn, also known as the ostrich capital of the world. Complete the coastal adventure with a drink in hand on your private balcony looking out to the sea at Tintswalo Atlantic.
Become familiar with the magnificent creatures roaming the land at a private game reserve. Capture iconic images of the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve in the Northern Cape – dainty springboks against a backdrop of red sand, a cheetah racing in the wild, playful meerkats bathing in the sun.
Alternatively, experience a safari at the legendary Sabi Sands Game Reserve in the southwestern section of Kruger National Park. Here, you have the opportunity of sighting the Big Five in their natural habitat. In the heart of the bush, stay in one of the Lions Sands Game Reserve’s luxurious lodges, with access to the perennial Sable River and one of the best master trackers in the world.
